Description

Break dancing is exciting to watch but associated with a number of musculoskeletal injuries.


Injuries may include:

(1) hypothenar hammer syndrome

(2) fractures, including of the cervical spine

(3) avulsion of the anterior superior iliac spine

(4) tendinitis

(5) sprains

(6) joint dislocations

 

Joints commonly affected:

(1) wrist

(2) knee

(3) hip

(4) ankle

(5) elbow

(6) shoulder

(7) fingers

(8) spine

 

Risk factors for injury:

(1) failure to recover completely from a previous injury

(2) extreme moves

(3) lack of supervised instruction

(4) failure to use protective equipment

(5) overuse injuries
