Description

Bungee jumping may be associated with a variety of injuries which may range from minor to life-threatening. One suggestion to reduce the risk of injuries is to regulate the sport and to license operators.


 

Risk factors for injury associated with bungee cord jumping:

(1) intoxication

(2) greater than expected body weight

(3) less than expected distance to bottom (height misjudged)

(4) defective bungee cord

(5) problem with leg attachment

(6) high or unpredictable wind speeds

(7) unexpected material at the bottom

(8) excessive g-forces during the drop

(9) anticoagulation or bleeding disorder

(10) inexperience of operator

(11) inappropriate jump point

(12) poor visibility conditions (night, fog, etc)

(13) disorder of bones and/or joints (osteoporosis, etc)
