Description

Scabies tends to affect people with a number of risk factors. These can help identify people who should be screened for the infestation.


 

Risk factors for an infection with scabies:

(1) close contact with a family member or person with scabies

(2) contact with someone with crusted (Norwegian) scabies

(3) exposure to clothing worn by an infected person

(4) exposure to bedding or towels used by an infected person

(5) poverty

(6) homelessness

(7) poor hygiene with infrequent bathing

(8) unemployed
