A number of risk factors may predispose a patient to Demodex folliculitis.
Risk factors for Demodex folliculitis:
(1) inadequate cleansing of the skin
(2) personal skin conditions (oily, other)
(3) sunlight exposure
(4) alcohol intake
(5) smoking
(6) stress
(7) diet (spicy food, hot beverages)
(8) abrupt changes in temperature
(9) topical or systemic therapy with steroids or immunosuppressive agents
(10) disorders associated with immunodeficiency (HIV, leukemia, etc)
