Description

A patient with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) may have significant fatigue. The presence of certain conditions may help to identify these patients and may suggest ways to address the fatigue.

Risk factors identified by Bruce et al:

(1) poor health status (as measured by the SF-36)

(2) higher tender point count (fibromyalgia)

The authors found that fatigue did not correlate with disease activity.

Other factors that may contribute to fatigue:

(1) disturbed sleep

(2) depression

(3) medications

(4) anemia
