A person may be exposed to phosphine gas in a number of situations.
Situations associated with exposure to phosphine:
(1) fumigant in agriculture
(2) chemical industry
(3) clandestine methamphetamine laboratory
(4) rotting organic matter
Risk factors for acute intoxication:
(1) poor ventilation
(2) high gas concentration
(3) unaware of danger
Risk can be reduced by:
(1) good ventilation
(2) use of a chemical indicator badge or other method of monitoring for phosphine.
