The prevalence of domestic abuse against the husband is uncertain but more common than assumed. A number of risk factors may contribute to its occurrence.


Patient selection: battered husband

 

Risk factors may include:

(1) poverty

(2) inadequate income for lifestyle

(3) wasting money by the wife, including spending addiction

(4) asking the wife to not neglect the house, children, appearance, or hygiene

(5) infidelity

(6) desire to dominate and control

(7) substance abuse

(8) interference by the wife's family

(9) husband making demands for sex on an unwilling wife

(10) abusive childhood for the wife

(11) dependent personality in the husband

(12) wife's jealousy

(13) poor anger control
