Description

Breast cancer is uncommon in males but may occur if certain risk factors are present.

Risk factors for breast cancer in a male:

(1) advanced age

(2) strong family history of breast cancer, or BRCA gene mutation

(3) exposure to radiation

(4) cryptorchidism

(5) testicular injury

(6) Klinefelter's syndrome

(7) liver dysfunction

(8) previous chest trauma

where:

• Several of these risk factors are associated with development of gynecomastia.

• I am not sure why chest trauma would predispose to breast cancer. I wonder if this is a marker of alcohol abuse, which is a cause for liver injury.
