An aortoenteric fistula may develop if certain diseases are present.
Disease of the aorta:
(1) aortic aneurysm
(2) synthetic graft for aortic aneurysm
(3) infectious aneurysm (pseudoaneurysm) due to Salmonella, syphilis, tuberculosis or other pathogen
Malignancy:
(1) colon cancer
(2) cervical cancer
(3) esophageal cancer
Gastrointestinal disease:
(1) ulceration
(2) foreign body
(3) cholelithiasis
(4) diverticulitis
(5) radiotherapy
