Description

Being struck by a car or truck is a constant hazard for many workers. The risk can be decreased by addressing causal risk factors.


Situation: struck by injuries

 

Worksite:

(1) poor traffic control plan

(2) lack of suitable barriers

 

Driver:

(1) poor visibility conditions (night, fog, precipitation)

(2) obstructed vision (blind corner, etc)

(3) blinded by a bright light

(4) excessive vehicular speed

(5) loss of control

(6) vehicle without back-up warning

(7) poor vision

 

Worker:

(1) failure to wear a reflective vest

(2) nonadherence to safety policies

(3) in a driver's blind spot

 

Both worker and driver:

(1) intoxication

(2) distraction

(3) illness

(4) medication effect
