The severity of a scorpion envenomation can be affected by a number of factors.
Factors that may be associated with a more severe envenomation:
(1) a highly toxic species
(2) multiple stings
(3) low body weight, especially a child < 5 years of age
(4) presence of a serious comorbid disease, especially cardiac disease
(5) early pregnancy
(6) allergy to the venom
