Christmas tree fires occur each year and can cause severe damage and injuries.


Risk factors for a Christmas tree fire:

(1) flammable tree

(1a) natural tree that has not been adequately watered

(1b) artificial tree of flammable material

(2) defect in electric lights (frayed cord, other)

(3) exposure to open flame

(4) tree falling over into a fire source

 

Safety tips:

(1) turn off lights at night and when leaving the house

(2) careful examination of lights with replacement of defective elements

(3) do not overload electric circuits

(4) adequately watering a natural tree

(5) keeping open flames away from the tree

(6) buying a flame-resistant artificial tree

(7) making sure that the tree is standing secure

(8) use lights that produce low heat
