Description

Haddad et al developed a right heart score for evaluating a patient with pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH). This correlates with long-term outcome. The authors are from Stanford University, VU University Amsterdam, Montreal University, and Universite Paris-Sud.

Patient selection: idiopathic, familial, drug-associated, toxin-associated PAH

Outcome: survival

Parameters:

(1) right ventricular function (based on American Society of Echocardiography criteria)

(2) right atrial enlargement

(3) systolic blood pressure in mm Hg

Interpretation:

• minimum score: 1

• maximum score: 5

• The higher the score the worse the survival.
