Carbon monoxide poisoning may be associated with rhabdomyolysis.
The rhabdomyolysis may be associated with a compartment syndrome, typically involving the lower extremity. However, muscle necrosis may also result from the effect of the carbon monoxide.
The rhabdomyolysis may be associated with:
(1) elevated serum CK, often marked
(2) acute renal failure
A muscle biopsy will show ischemic necrosis.
