Description

Frazier et al identified risk factors affecting long-term disease-free survival for pediatric patients with extracranial germ cell tumors (GCT). These can help to identify a patient who may benefit from more aggressive management. The authors are from multiple institutions in the United States and the United Kingdom.

Patient selection: pediatric patient with extracranial germ cell tumor Stage II to IV

Outcome: disease-free long-term survival

Risk factors associated with worse outcomes:

(1) location and stage

(2) age >= 11 years

Worse prognosis associated with:

(1) (ovarian site) AND (stage IV)

(2) (extragonadal site) AND (stage III or IV)

Additional factors associated with worse outcomes:

(1) serum alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) >= 10,000 ng/mL at enrollment

(2) NOT(pure yolk sac tumor)
