Revised Cutaneous Lupus Erythematosus Disease Area and Severity Index (RCLASI) can be used to determine the activity and damage associated with cutaneous lupus erythematosus. One measure of damage is the extent of scarring alopecia. The authors are from the University of Muenster, University of Dusseldorf, and Fachklinik Bad Bentheim in Germany
Damage: scarring alopecia of the scalp
Steps:
(1) determine the extent of scarring alopecia in 4 scalp areas
(2) estimate the total scalp surface area affected by scarring alopecia

= SUM(((percent of region involved)*(region as percent of total scalp area)))
Interpretation:
• minimum total scalp percent: 0%
• maximum total scalp percent: 100%
• The total scalp percent can be converted to a damage score using the table below.
