Description

Herpes zoster involving the sacral region may be associated with neurological complications, including erectile dysfunction and/or neurogenic bladder.


Clinical features:

(1) dermatomal rash consistent with Herpes zoster

(2) erectile dysfunction

(3) neurogenic bladder with urinary retention

(4) variable pain

(5) variable bowel dysfunction with constipation

 

The changes are usually reversible although it may take time for function to fully recover.
