Some patients with retinitis pigmentosa may lack pigmentary deposits (sine pigmento).
Pigment in retinitis pigmentosa refers to bone spicule pigmentary deposits.
Clinical findings:
(1) myopia
(2) night blindness
(3) progressive loss of peripheral visual fields, eventually resulting in tunnel vision
The lack of pigment may be unilateral.
Pigmentation may develop over the course of the disease
Diagnostic findings:
(1) genetic mutation associated with retinitis pigmentosa
(2) abnormalities on fundus autofluorescence (FAF)
