Furie et al reported criteria for a systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) responder index. This indicates improvement in disease activity without worsening in the overall condition or development of significant disease activity in a new organ system. The authors are fom multiple institutions in the United States.
Criteria for SLE responder index - all of the following:
(1) reduction in SELENA-SLEDIA score from baseline >= 4 points
(2) no new BILAG A or no more than 1 new BILAG B score
(3) change in physician global assessment (PGA) from baseline < 0.3 points
where:
• The physician's global assessment is from 0 to 3 on a 10 cm VAS scale.
• BILAG A indicates marked disease activity in 0 to 8 organ-based components.
• BILAG B indicates moderate activity in 0 to 8 organ-based components.
• While item 2 uses "OR" it is assumed to be "AND".
