Description

Caputo et al reported the shock index adjusted for the respiratory rate. This can help to identify occult shock. The authors are from Cornell University in New York City.

Hypoperfusion was indicated by a blood lactate > 2 mmol/L.

Parameters:

(1) heart rate in beats per minute

(2) systolic blood pressure in mm Hg

(3) respiratory rate in breaths per minute

respiratory adjusted shock index =

= (heart rate) / (systolic blood pressuer) * ((respiratory rate)/10) =

= 0.1 * ((heart rate) * (respiratory rate)) / (systolic blood pressure

Interpretation:

• A RASI > 1.3 was considered abnormal.

Performance:

• The area under the ROC curve was 0.94.
