Ward and Gibb listed criteria for probable Parkinson's Disease suitable for research. The authors are from Southampton General Hospital in England.
Criteria - all of the following:
(1) The presence of a disorder that is progressive in its clinical course.
(2) The presence of 2 or 3 of the following cardinal features:
(2a) bradykinesia
(2b) rigidity
(2c) tremor
(3) The presence of >= 2 of the following findings:
(3a) asymmetry at onset
(3b) asymmetry of signs
(3c) tremor as the initial symptom
(3d) marked response to levodopa, with either functional improvement and/or dyskinesia
(4) Exclusion: The absence clinical findings characteristic for an alternative diagnosis.
(5) Exclusion: The absence of a disorder known to cause similar clinical findings.
