Renboek made an interesting observation in patients with psoriasis and severe forms of alopecia areata.
Synonym: reverse Koebner phenomenon
Patient selection: psoriasis and alopecia areata
Renboek phenomenon refers to the presence of hair growth within the psoriatic plaque, which may be the only hair growth that the patient shows.
A patient with psoriasis and alopecia areata can achieved hair regrowth by inducing contact sensitization in the area where hair regrowth is desired.
In Renboek phenomenon 2 immune-mediated processes (psoriasis or contact sensitization vs alopecia areata) may interact, with the first process canceling the effect of the second. This appears to be cytokine-mediated.
