The relative renal length by ultrasonography is the ratio of the renal length divided by the patient's body height.
relative renal length =
= (renal length in millimeters) / (body length in centimeters)
Advantages: Reduces differences related to sex and height differences.
Disadvantages: Renal length measurements may be subject to variability.
Data of Miletic et al for healthy adults without renal disease
Observations: The left kidney is slightly larger than the right kidney, with both kidneys becoming smaller with advancing age.
