Description

Kharbanda et al reported a refined prediction rule for identifying children at low risk for appendicitis. A child at low risk for acute appendicitis can be managed more conservatively. The authors are from multiple children’s hospitals in the United States.

NOTE: The original prediction rule is reported in 10.10.16 (above)

Patient selection: pediatric patient with abdominal pain suspected to be appendicitis

Parameters:

(1) acute neutrophil count

(2) maximal tenderness in the right lower quadrant (RLQ)

(3) abdominal pain with walking, jumping and/or coughing
