Description

Some elderly patients are frail but not unfit for chemotherapy. In these patients a lowered dose of chemotherapy or a less intensive regimen may be selected.

Patient selection: frail with cancer but not unfit

While lowering the chemotherapy dose may reduce adverse effects on the patient, the concern is that the therapy might be less effective in treating the malignancy. The strategy works best when a lower dose has been shown to be noninferior to the full dose.

The decision to use a lower dose should include the patient.
