Yogo et al reported the prognostic significance of red cell distribution width (RDW) for a patient with light chain amyloidosis. The authors are from the Japanese Red Cross Medical Center
Patient selection: light chain amyloidosis
Prognostic factors:
(1) red cell distribution width (RDW) in percent
(2) serum NTproBNP in pg/mL (marker of cardiac involvement)

The best survival was for a patient with RDW < 13.8 and normal NTproBNP (< 332 pg/mL).
Cardiac involvement is associated with worse survival. Mayo Stage I is based on 3 markers (NTproBNP < 1,800 pg/mL; troponin T < 0.025 ng/mL; light chain difference < 180 mg/L).
