Description

A rectal Dieulafoy's lesion is similar to the a gastric Dieulafoy's lesion and can be a source of severe rectal bleeding. Similar lesions can occur in the small and large intestines.


Clinical features:

(1) The patient presents with rectal bleeding, which may be massive.

(2) Examination shows a mucosal ulcer with a prominent artery in the submucosa.

(3) Control of the bleeding may be difficult and require oversewing of the vessel or embolization if endoscopic therapy fails to control bleeding.

(4) Other causes of bleeding are excluded.
