Description

Sherer et al reported findings seen as a person recovers from post-concussion confusional state (PTCS). The authors are from multiple institutions in the United States and Canada.

Patient selection: post-concussion with post-traumatic confusional state (PTCS)

Recovery entails clinically significant improvement in the neurobehavioral findings:

(1) ability to pay attention and to process simple information

(2) general orientation to time, place and circumstances

(3) ability to recall recent events and to learn new information

(4) absence of significant cognitive or behavioral fluctuations

(5) able to participate in simple social interactions

The patient should have some functional independence, be able to cooperate in care and interact with others.

Some patients may not fully recover. These patients may have a persisting problem in one or more cognitive domains.
