Description

Recommendations for annual screening for lung cancer were presented in the Lung Cancer Guidelines from the American College of Chest Physicians. These can help to determine which patients should be evaluated or not.


 

Method of annual screening: low-dose CT (LDCT) scan

 

A person should be considered for annual screening if he or she meet all of the following criteria:

(1) age 55 to 74 years

(2) one of the following:

(2a) current smoker

(2b) former smoker who quit within the past 15 years (<=15 years)

(3) >= 30 pack-years of smoking

 

Screening site requirements:

(1) LDCT available

(2) informed consent obtained on potential benefits and harms

(3) conducted in a setting that provides comprehensive care
