Description

Sometimes a murderer makes no attempt to hide or dispose of a body. This may be done for a number of reasons. Not disposing of the body often means that the crime is detected sooner and the victim can be identified.

Factors contributing to the decision:

(1) whether or not the murderer thinks that he or she will be recognized

(2) whether the murder is an impulsive or premeditated act

(3) reason for the murder

Reasons why a murderer may not dispose of the body:

(1) The murderer wanted to give a show of power, especially if recognized.

(2) The murderer wanted to send a message.

(3) The murderer did not think that he or she would be identified.

(4) The murder was an impulsive act without premeditation.

(5) The murder was a crime of opportunity as part of a premeditated plan.

(6) There was no opportunity to dispose of the body.

(7) It is a lot easier not to dispose of the body.
