Some people can come up with many reasons not to exercise. These barriers need to be addressed individually in order to start regular exercise.


Health-related reasons:

(1) deconditioning

(2) exercise intolerance

(3) peripheral neuropathy

(4) peripheral arterial disease

(5) active infection

(6) frailty

(7) angina

(8) chronic foot ulcer

(9) unresolved illness

(10) dyspnea

(11) amputation

 

Psychological reasons:

(1) fear of falling

(2) fear of heart attack

(3) fear of reactivating an old injury

(4) fear of ridicule

 

Personal reasons:

(1) no time

(2) too tired

(3) lazy

(4) no one to motivate

 

Environmental reasons:

(1) no place to exercise

(2) too hot or too cold

(3) inclement weather

(4) unsafe to exercise
