Bosy-Westphal et al correlated the ratio of height cubed to waist circumference cubed with measures of metabolic risk. The authors are from Christian-Albrechts-Universitat zu Kiel, Statdisches Klinikum Braunschweig and Bundesforschungsanstalt fur Erhahrung und Lebensmittel in Germany.
Fat-free mass (FFM) is correlated with height cubed:
FFM for male in kg =
= (8.3701 * ((height in m)^3)) + 15.126
FFM for female in kg =
= (6.5965 * ((height in m)^3)) + 15.201
Parameters:
(1) height in centimeters
(2) waist circumference in centimeter
ratio of height cubed to waist circumference cubed =
= ((height)^3) / ((waist circumference)^3)
Interpretation:
• The mean values for males is 6.88 cm^3/cm^3 with standard deviation 3.14.
• The mean values for females is 6.39 cm^3/cm^3 with standard deviation 2.29.
• The lower the ratio the greater the metabolic risk.
