Description

Kos et al reported a rapid screening tool to measure the impact of fatigue on a patient with multiple sclerosis. This can be used in primary care settings to screen a patient for significant impact and can be followed by a more comprehensive instrument. The authors are from Vrije Universiteit Brussel and the National MS Centre Melsbroek in Belgium.

Patient selection: multiple sclerosis (MS)

Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) used for screen:

How much influence does fatigue have on daily life and relationships?

Scoring is along a 100 mm line ranging from no influence to a lot of influence.

A score > 59 mm indicates severe fatigue with high impact.

Other VAS evaluated:

(1) How much influence does fatigue have on daily activities?

(2) How much influence does fatigue have on household or occupational activities?
