Description

Oh et al evaluated the importance of the admission chest CT scan for a patient with a thermal burn. The radiologist can score each slice of the CT for the changes seen. The authors are from Fort Sam Houston in Texas.

Patient selection: thermal burn

Analysis: chest CT scan

Each slice is scored separately.

For each slice the left lung is divided into 4 quadrants and the right lung is divided into 4 quadrants.

Each quadrant is scored based on the most severe finding.

Finding

RAD Score for Quadrant

normal

0

increased interstitial markings

1

ground glass opacification

2

consolidation

score for the slice =

= SUM(points for all 8 quadrants)

final score =

= SUM(RADS for all slices)

average RADS per slice =

= (final score) / (number of slices)
