Description

Bradley et al identified risk factors for radiation pneumonitis in patients undergoing radiation therapy for non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). They developed an equation and nomogram which can be used to predict a patient's risk of the complication. The authors are from Washington University, the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, LDS Hospital and Phelps County Regional Hospital.

Parameter:

(1) mean lung dose (MLD) in Gy, from 0 to 32

(2) dose center superior-to-inferior; gross tumor volume (GTV), from 0 to 1

X =

= (0.11 * (MLD)) - (2.8 * (dose center)) - 1.5

probability of radiation pneumonitis =

= 1 / (1 + EXP((-1) * X)
