Description

Quincke's disease is isolated angioedema of the uvula.


Causes:

(1) trauma

(2) thermal exposure (marijuana)

(3) general anesthesia

(4) drug reaction (ACE inhibitor)

(5) infection

(6) hereditary angioedema

 

Iatrogenic trauma:

(1) laryngoscopy

(2) oropharyngeal airway

(3) suctioning

(4) endotracheal tube placement

(5) nasogastric tube

 

Clinical features may include:

(1) sensation in back of throat

(2) blockage of airway

(3) edematous enlargement of the uvula
