Description

Leclerc et al used a "quick" PELOD-2 score ot evaluate pediatric patients with suspected infection. The authors are from Groupe Francophone de Reanimation et Urgences Pediatriques (GFRUP).

Patient selection: pediatric patient with suspected infection or septic shock admitted to the PICU

The patient is evaluated for altered mentation, hypotension and tachycardia.

Parameters on Day 1 in the pediatric ICU:

(1) Glasgow coma score (GCS), from 3 to 15

(2) hypotension based on systolic blood pressure in mm Hg, mean blood pressure in mm Hg, and age in months

(3) heart rate in beats per minute for age in years

Alternatively the mean blood pressure can be used instead of systolic blood pressure.

= SUM(points for all 3 parameters)

Interpretation:

• minimum score: 0

• maximum score: 3

• The higher the score the greater the mortality for pediatric patients with suspected infection.
