Description

Ypma et al used a battery of laboratory tests for evaluating the quality of a platelet concentrate. The results can then be correlated with the clinical outcome after the product is transfused. The authors are participants in the PREPAReS Trial and from multiple institutions in The Netherlands, Canada, and Norway.

Target: platelet concentrate

Parameters:

(1) percent expression of CD62P (high values associated with increased platelet clearance)

(2) percent Annexin A5 binding (high values associated with decreased platelet survival in animal models)

(3) lactate concentrate in mmol/L (low values indicate good mitochondrial function)
