Description

Manganese can cause pulmonary toxicity if inhaled.


Route of exposure: inhalation of manganese fumes

 

Occupations: welders, artisans, foundry workers

 

Clinical findings:

(1) dyspnea

(2) bronchitis

(3) pneumonitis

(4) reduced pulmonary function tests

 

Risk factors:

(1) poor ventilation

(2) lack of personal protective equipment

(3) frequent engagement in manganese fume generating activities
