The disability of a patient with pulmonary arterial hypertension can be graded based on the level of functional impairment. This scale is a modification of the New York Heart Association (NYHA) functional classification for patients with heart disease. The scale was proposed at the World Symposium on Primary Pulmonary Hypertension in Evian, France.

(1) undue dyspnea
(2) fatigue
(3) chest pain
