Description

Sometimes a diabetic with abdominal pain, bloating and early satiety are assumed to have gastroparesis. Other conditions can cause similar symptomsor can occur together with gastroparesis.


Conditions that may mimic gastroparesis in a diabetic include:

(1) adrenal insufficiency (associated with gastric dysmotility)

(2) superior mesenteric artery syndrome

(3) biliary dyskinesia or Sphincter of Oddi dysfunction

(4) duodenal tumor

(5) external tumor compression

(6) gastric foreign body or bezoar

(7) gastric tumor

(8) chronic intestinal pseudo-obstruction

(9) anorexia nervosa

(10) cannabinoid hyperemesis syndrome

(11) adverse side effects of NSAIDs or other drugs
