Description

Pseudocowpox (paravaccinia, PCPV) is parapoxvirus that normally affects ruminants. It can affect humans who come into contact with infected animals.


 

Animals affected:

(1) cattle

(2) camels

 

Milker’s nodules (noduli mulgentium) are small skin nodules that develop on the hands of people who have contact with cattle, especially those who manually milk cows. The lesions usually resolve within several weeks.

 

Diagnosis is often made clinically. Viral inclusions can be seen in a skin biopsy and the virus identified on immunohistochemistry, electron microscopy or PCR.

 

Differential diagnosis:

(1) cowpox

(2) milker’s hand
