Description

Sometimes a child with an organic academia may be misdiagnosed as having pyloric stenosis.

Patient: child with vomiting and anorexia

Reasons to consider pseudo pyloric stenosis associated with organic academia:

(1) presence of acidosis (rather than alkalosis)

(2) significant ketonuria

(3) altered level of consciousness or coma

(4) other manifestations of an organic academia (failure to thrive, abnormal odor, family history, etc)
