Some people advocate raising insects (minilivestocking) as a source of nutrition. Eating of insects has been part of some cultures for centuries.
Pros:
(1) can be a good source of nutrition
(2) relatively easy to raise in large numbers
(3) cheap
(4) lower impact on the environment compared to animal husbandry
Cons:
(1) possibility of food allergies
(2) possible exposure to pesticides if harvested from nature
(3) lack of appeal to the consumer
(4) infectious disease
The edible insect need not be eaten whole but can be ground down or have its nutrients extracted.
