Description

Yang et al reported a prognostic score for a patient with severe fever with thrombocytopenia syndrome (SFTS). The authors are from Jinan Hospital of Infectious Diseases and Jinan Vocational College of Nursing.

Patient selection: severe fever with thrombocytopenia syndrome (SFTS)

Parameters:

(1) Glasgow coma scale (from 3 to 15)

(2) serum LDH, as multiple of upper limit of normal (ULN)

(3) plasma aPTT, as multiple of upper limit of normal (ULN)

(4) SpO2 in percent

conscious state score =

= 15 - (GCS)

ratio of LDH to ULN =

= (LDH) / (ULN)

ratio of aPTT to ULN =

= (aPTT) / (ULN)

where:

• The table shows overlap for a GCS of 12.

total score =

= SUM(points for all of the parameters)

Interpretation:

• minimum score: 0

• maximum score: 40

• Survivors had scores 11.69 +/- 6.65 (upper limit 18.34)

• Non-survivors had scores 18.13 +/- 6.39 (lower limit 11.74)

• A score > 15 indicates a high risk for mortality.

Performance:

• The area under the ROC curve is 0.78.
