Description

Tong et al developed a prognostic model for patients with hypocellular myelodysplastic syndrome. This can help to identify patients who may require more aggressive management. The authors are from the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston.

Patient selection: hypocellular myelodysplastic syndrome (bone marrow cellularity < 20%)

Parameters:

(1) hemoglobin in g/dL

(2) ECOG performance status

(3) unfavorable cytogenetics

(4) percent blasts in the bone marrow

(5) serum LDH in IU/L

• minimum score: 0

• maximum score: 5

• The higher the score the worse the prognosis.
