Description

Shen et al developed a simple prognostic score for a patient with a solitary large hepatocellular carcinoma. This can help to stratify patients based on 5-year survival after hepatectomy. The authors are from West China Hospital and Sichuan University in Chengdu, China.

Patient selection: solitary large hepatocellular carcinoma

Outcome: 5-year survival after hepatectomy

Parameters:

(1) PLR (platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio)

(2) diameter of the tumor in centimeters

(3) microvascular invasion

PLR =

= (platelet count) / (absolute lymphocyte count)

Interpretation:

• minimum score: 0

• maximum score: 3

• The higher the score the worse the prognosis.
