Description

Nordlinger et al reported a prognostic score for a patient undergoing resection of liver metastases from a colorectal carcinoma. This can help to identify a patient who may benefit from more aggressive therapy or a novel intervention. The authors are from Hopital Saint Antoine in Paris.

Patient selection: surgical resection of hepatic metastases from a colorectal carcinoma

Parameters:

(1) age in years

(2) serosal invasion of primary tumor (T4)

(3) lymph node metastases from primary tumor (N1 or N2)

(4) liver metastases less than 2 years after diagnosis of colon primary (disease-free interval)

(5) diameter of metastasis in cm

(6) number of liver metastases

(7) shortest distance between tumor and resection margin in cm
