Hausfater et al developed a risk score for evaluating a patient with non-exertional heatstroke. This can help to triage the patient based on risk of mortality. The authors are from multiple hospitals in Paris, France.
Parameters dealing with comorbid conditions:
(1) chronic therapy with diuretics
(2) living in an institution
(3) age of the patient in years
(4) presence of heart disease
(5) cancer
Parameters dealing with severity of heatstroke episode:
(6) core temperature at presentation in °C
(7) systolic blood pressure in mm Hg
(8) Glasgow coma score (GCS)
(9) transportation of the patient to the hospital by ambulance

= SUM(points for all 9 parameters)
Interpretation:
• minimum score: 0
• maximum score: 22
• The higher the score the worse the prognosis.
• Survival at 1 week in the high risk group was only about 30%.
