Description

Braga et al reported a prognostic score predictive of major complications after pancreaticoduodenectomy. This can help to identify a patient who may benefit from more aggressive management. The authors are from Vita-Salute San Raffaele University in Milan.

Patient selection: pancreaticoduodenectomy ASA I or III

Outcome: major complication (Clavien-Dindo classification III to V)

Parameters:

(1) pancreatic texture

(2) diameter of the pancreatic duct in mm

(3) operative blood loss in mL

(4) ASA score, from I to III

Interpretation:

• minimum score: 0

• maximum score: 15

• The higher the score the greater the risk for major complications.
